Boycott Workfare is a UK-wide campaign to end forced unpaid work for people who receive welfare. Workfare profits the rich by providing free labour, whilst threatening the poor by taking away welfare rights if people refuse to work without a living wage. We are a grassroots campaign, formed in 2010 by people with experience of workfare and those concerned about its impact. We expose and take action against companies and organisations profiting from workfare; encourage organisations to pledge to boycott it; and actively inform people of their rights.

A UK-wide Week of Action Against Workfare has been called on 7-14 July. This update from Liverpool shows some of the actions taking place in just one city in the build up to the week. Let us know what you’re planning!

To kick off a rolling series of pickets and occupations in Liverpool, leading up to the UK-wide Week of Action Against Workfare on 7-14 July, we are holding another day of action in Liverpool City Centre on Sat 9th June.

This will be followed by Combat Workfare actions on:

Saturday 16 June – Wavertree Combat Workfare

Saturday 23 June – Liverpool City Centre Combat Workfare

Saturday 30 June – Wavertree Combat Workfare

Saturday 7 July – Liverpool City Centre Combat Workfare

All targets will be announced on the day and a series of mid-week actions through June & July will be announced nearer the time.

We call on everyone who stands opposed to the government’s workfare schemes, and the attempt to undermine the rights and conditions of all workers, to join us in direct-action against forced unpaid labour.

The message to every workfare provider in Liverpool is simple: IF YOU EXPLOIT US, WE WILL SHUT YOU DOWN! Help us make that slogan a reality.
